The thematic inspiration for this grew out of a
saying attributed to the Buddha: "The trouble is
you think you have time." A major theme of this
whole album is the irrevocability of the passage
of time. Try as we might, once spent, we can't get
back a single nanosecond of time, but we often
live, speak and think as though we have all the
time in the world and it'll never be too late to
do the things we always wanted to do or solve the
problems that kind of shortsightedness caused us
in the past. The obvious reality of the situation
is that we don't have time. For all we know, we'll be
breathing our last breath before the sun comes up
tomorrow; or, as importantly, our loved ones will.
Imagine how different all of our lives, the life of
our civilization might be if we were even half as
respectful of the irrevocability of the passage of
time as we should be. If we were, we might realize
that our daily stressors aren't the worst of our
troubles in life, but the fact that we invest them
with more importance than they deserve because
we believe we have more time than we do.
